Program on Health Law & Policy
The public’s health and the delivery of clinical services often depend upon the laws and regulations of the U.S. states. These laws cover a range of topics from motor vehicle safety, to vaccinations, to telemedicine, to the scope of practice acts, among many others. State provisions often vary dramatically allowing for a rigorous analysis of the effects of differences in state laws and regulations. However, collecting and characterizing these provisions across states and over time is challenging. As a result, remarkably few state health laws and regulations have been examined to determine their effects on health or on healthcare delivery. This Program will undertake an ongoing and systematic effort to characterize and analyze these laws to the betterment of state and federal policy making and to improve health.
