The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program in the Texas A&M Health Science Center’s Department of Health Policy and Management is a professional degree program intended for students pursuing administrative practice in health service related settings. We offer two ways in which you may earn the MHA degree: 1) Resident MHA for students embarking on their career in health administration and 2) Executive MHA for working, mid-career healthcare professionals.
Regardless of which option you choose, the MHA program will provide you with a rigorous and comprehensive educational experience, including the core disciplines of the schools of public health that have become increasingly important in health administration. The MHA program embraces the ethic and philosophy that health services managers and leaders must provide appropriate direction in attending to the interests of the populations their organizations serve. The MHA program has a network of professional relationships with healthcare providers around the country and benefits greatly from its own alumni and from one of the nation’s strongest alumni networks, the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M University.
The Resident MHA program is ranked as one of the top health care management programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, and was one of ten demonstration sites for the National Center for Healthcare Leadership that helped develop this graduate program’s learning competencies. You can complete the 57-credit hour Resident MHA program within 21 months (full-time) or 33 months (part-time). The comprehensive and timely curriculum includes a required 10-week summer internship that allows you to apply classroom knowledge in a health services organization. The Resident MHA program graduated its first class in 2002, will graduate its 250th MHA in May, 2016, and was one of the fastest to achieve Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) initial accreditation in 2008. It has been fully and continuously accredited by CAHME since then. Resident MHA program graduates have acquired successful careers as managers and leaders across the entire health care industry including provider organizations (e.g., hospitals, physician offices and groups, clinics, nursing homes), health insurers, consulting firms, and trade associations.
The Executive MHA program will admit its first cohort in August 2015. You can complete the 48-credit hour Executive MHA program in two years. This program is intended for working mid-career healthcare professionals with at least 5 years of increasing responsibilities within health services. Course in the Executive MHA program are taught one weekend a month at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
