Health Policy and Management

The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) invites applications for one (1) tenure or tenure-track, 11-month, faculty appointment at the assistant or associate professor rank. Although consideration will be given to any area of expertise in health services research, priority areas include healthcare management and/or public health management and organization.

About the Position

Administratively located in the CEPH-accredited School of Public Health (SPH), the department offers the Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Public Health (MPH), and PhD in Health Service Research degree programs. Both SPH and the CAHME-accredited MHA program are nationally ranked. The MHA program offers both a Resident track (in College Station) and an Executive track (in Houston).

The department, with 18 faculty members and an Executive-in-Residence, provides leadership to Regents’ approved centers and programs:

  • The NSF-funded Center for Health Organization Transformation
  • The USA Center for Rural Public Health Preparedness
  • The Southwest Rural Health Research Center
  • The Program on Health Policy Research
  • The Program on LTC, Aging and Disability Policy

This position requires candidates that have developed or demonstrate great potential for developing a strong research program and excellent teaching ability. Qualifications include a PhD or other appropriate doctoral degree from an accredited institution in fields such as: health services research, management or health management, public health management, operations research, organizational theory, sociology or medical sociology, psychology, or other social sciences; a demonstrated record of research and scholarly work; highly effective interpersonal skills; and the ability to work well with inter-disciplinary teams. A record of obtaining extramural funding is especially important for those seeking a more senior level appointment.
