Dr. Roland Goertz is the chief executive officer of the three foundations that oversee all operations of the Waco Family Health Center. He was instrumental in reorganizing the center and certifying it as a Federally Qualified Health Center in 1999. The center is the recognized provider of ambulatory healthcare for the vulnerable population of McLennan County, providing over 180,000 visits per year to over 40,000 patients. The center also operates a 36-resident family medicine residency program (one of the oldest accredited training programs of its kind west of the Mississippi River), the Brazos Regional Area Health Education Center, and the Family Medicine Faculty Development Center of Texas.
Since 1986, Goertz held positions as program director of the family practice residency program in Corpus Christi, Texas; medical director of a health plan in Austin, Texas; chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at The University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center; and chief medical officer of a 740-physician group partnership practice of the Houston Medical School and the then Hermann Hospital. In 1997 Goertz accepted the role of chief executive officer of the foundations overseeing the operations of the Waco Family Health Center.
Goertz is an active member and leader of numerous voluntary state and national professional organizations. He currently chairs the Family Practice Residency Advisory Committee of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. He is also a member of the advisory board of Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business. In September 2006, Goertz was elected to a three-year term on the board of the 90,000 member American Academy of Family Physicians.
Goertz is a member of the Waco Rotary Club, Waco Community Health Action Parnters, the Waco Business League, and serves on the executive committee of the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce.
