Dr. Bob Galvan is currently president and CEO of Galvan & Associates, a group of environmental and public health consultants. Galvan has 42 years of experience in the area of environmental and public health, serving as director of Health for the city of Richardson, Texas, from 1968 until 1992; director of Health and Community Development for the city of Plano, Texas, from 1992 until 1997; director of Public Health for the city of Fort Worth, Texas, from 1997 until 1999; and interim director of the El Paso City County Environmental and Public Health District from 2007 until 2008.
Galvan was the associate dean and assistant professor for the School of Public Health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center from 1999 until 2006, in the Department of Health Management & Policy. He has served as president, Executive Board and Governing Council member of the Texas Public Health Association, and was awarded the 2006 James E. Peavy Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Public Health Profession in Texas. Galvan was a founding and charter member and past president of the Texas Association of Municipal Health Officials, an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League and currently serves on the executive board of TAMHO. He has also served on the executive board and various committees of the TML. In similar fashion, Galvan has served as president, Executive Board and Governing Council member of the Texas Environmental Health Association, and was awarded the I.E. Scott Award as the top Environmental Health Professional in the State of Texas.Galvan has also served as the regional vice president of the National Environmental Health Association, representing seven states in the Southwest. He was awarded the Walter Snyder Award in 1992 by the National Environmental Health Association and the National Sanitation Foundation as the top Environmental Health Professional in North America.
Galvan also serves on the executive boards of the Texas Health Institute and the Public Health Museum of Texas. Galvan is an expert in the governance of public health in the State of Texas. He also serves on the Environmental and Public Health Council and is a corporate member for Underwriters Laboratories in Chicago. Galvan holds three faculty appointments: The University of North Texas Health Science Center, School of Public Health; Texas A&M School of Public Health; and, Midwestern State University, School of Health Administration Services, where he serves as Professor of Record in their International British Studies Program in London, England. Galvan has a DrPH in social & behavioral science; an MPH in health management and policy; and an MS in environmental sciences, with specialization in environmental quality control and natural resource management. He is also a diplomat in the American Academy of Sanitarians.
