Office of Research

Jean Brender The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center School of Public Health is committed to fostering research that improves public health and health outcomes, particularly among rural and underserved populations.

To achieve this goal, SPH is home to a distinguished team of 45 faculty researchers representing the five traditional disciplines of public health. Since the School's inception, extramural research expenditures have grown to over $7M per year in individual, program and center activities. Faculty and student research span a wide range of topics important for public health and health outcomes. This range is reflected in our diversity of Board of Regents approved Centers and Programs that focus on such areas as community and rural health, health care management, reproductive and child health, aging, health disparities, nutrition, physical activity and obesity, asthma and air quality, environmental toxins, program evaluation, and preparedness and response.

The Office of Research's mission is to provide efficient and effective administration for the research activities of faculty, students, and staff.  This support includes assistance in pre-award grant preparation and post-award financial reporting and monitoring. The office showcases student research through the annual sponsorship of the annual SPH Poster Contest and  Masters and Doctoral Student Research Excellence Award.

Our office works to create a supportive environment that enhances the faculty and students' capacities to undertake research and other sponsored activities that improve health status and public health.  We also support faculty efforts to develop and sustain strong collaborations with partners at the local, regional, state, and national level.

If you would like to discuss research activities at SPH and opportunities to collaborate, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
